How Does Invisalign Work?

We will take a 3D scan of your mouth to create your bespoke Invisalign® clear aligners, designed to move your teeth into the desired position. The clear aligner sets will be recreated and changed every 1-2 weeks, as they gently move and align your smile.

Aligners should be worn for 20 to 22 hours a day and can be removed for eating and cleaning. Meanwhile, Invisalign® treatment duration varies depending on the range of movement required, ranging from 6 to 18 months.

Benefits of Invisalign

Invisible

Made from clear, medical-grade plastic material, Invisalign® clear aligners are nearly invisible when worn, making it a more aesthetically pleasing option for many patients.

Comfortable

Unlike traditional braces, clear aligners don’t have wires or brackets that can irritate your cheeks, lips, or gums. Invisalign® aligners also tend to cause less discomfort and soreness during the initial adjustment period compared to the discomfort that often comes with the tightening of braces.

Removable Aligners

Invisalign® aligners are removable, allowing you to easily eat, drink, brush, and floss without any restrictions. This can lead to better oral hygiene compared to braces, which can be challenging to clean around.

Invisalign FAQs

Treatment duration varies from person to person. Your dentist will advise when to change aligners and how long we predict your teeth straightening process will take. This can range from 6 to 18 months.

For the best results, you should wear your Invisalign clear aligners for 20 to 22 hours a day, removing them for eating, drinking, brushing, and flossing only.

Like any treatment that involves moving and repositioning the teeth, you may feel slight discomfort and aching. However, the pain should be far less intense than traditional braces. Any pain caused should gradually fade as your teeth become more accustomed to the clear aligners.

This can vary depending on your individual case, but we typically ask our Invisalign patients to visit us once every 6 weeks.

We recommend you rinse the clear aligner tray with water every day to remove any plaque or bad bacteria – never use hot water as this can damage the shape of the tray. Brush and floss your teeth to keep on top of your oral hygiene and prevent any food or drink stains from appearing on your clear aligners.

Once your Invisalign treatment is complete, you will be given a bespoke clear retainer to wear every night when you go to sleep. It’s imperative that you wear your retainer every night to prevent the teeth from moving back.
