Solution to
Wisdom Tooth Pain

Many people end up having their wisdom teeth removed after the painful process of them coming in. A common reason for this is the tooth not having enough space to come out from underneath the gum – which can cause even more pain and other issues if left untreated.

Another reason could be their impact on surrounding teeth. Their late arrival to the party can push your teeth around, causing yet again, more pain and bite problems.

Benefits of Wisdom Tooth Removal

Pain Relief

Wisdom teeth can cause pain, discomfort, and swelling when coming in, especially when the tooth doesn’t have enough space to come out from underneath the gum. This can cause even more pain and other issues if left untreated.

Less Crowding

Wisdom teeth can overcrowd your dentition, causing damage to adjacent molars.  When there is no room for them, wisdom teeth can cause alignment issues over time, as other teeth are slowly pushed out of the way.

Prevent Damage

The pressure caused by wisdom teeth can weaken and even loose the roots of nearby teeth or grind away enamel, leaving neighbouring teeth vulnerable to cavities and bone loss.

Wisdom Tooth Removal FAQs

You will be given a local anaesthetic which numbs the area so you won’t feel a thing. If the tooth is still under the gum a small cut will be made to expose the wisdom tooth. The tooth will then be manipulated until it lifts out.

You will feel some pressure but no pain during the procedure. Dissolvable stitches will be used to close the gum, which will dissolve within 7-10 days. Once the Dentist is happy for you to do so, you will be able to drive home following the procedure.

Depending on how many wisdom teeth you are having removed the procedure can take up to 45 minutes. Should there be any complications during surgery such as a stubborn tooth the procedure could take longer.

You will experience swelling and mild discomfort for up to 3 days after the surgery and it can take up to 2 weeks for the area to fully heal after wisdom tooth removal surgery.

Things to avoid after wisdom tooth removal include:

  • Drinking alcohol
  • Smoking
  • Drinking hot liquids
  • Eating hard food that may damage the wounds.
